Silver, Anchored by Spreadsheet Logic

In spreadsheet capitalism, silver remains valuable precisely because it is material, scarce, and physically constrained. Yet its power and price are determined less by where it is mined than by how it is calculated. Silver stands as a rare bridge between the physical world and the abstract financial architectures that now coordinate global political economies.

APEC Presentation: Healing the COP (Common Operating Picture) with AI and APIs for Disaster Management

Among the various mechanisms and tools, we focused on the Common Operational Picture (COP) as a mediation tool that can incorporate novel technologies, such as AI and APIs, and create value for disaster leadership in response to climate variance and data variance. COP is a shared, real-time view of operational data for decision-makers, teams, and agencies involved in multi-agency disaster risk reduction operations. By providing up-to-date information through dashboards and alerts, COP supports situational awareness and coordinated action.

Analyzing the Economics of Asymmetric Robotic Drone Warfare

At its core, the economic asymmetry in drone warfare is about imposing unsustainable costs on the adversary. A weaker actor uses extremely low-cost, often commercially available drones to create damage and threats that extremely high-cost, sophisticated defense systems must counter.

Reprogramming Spreadsheet Capitalism for Climate Resilience

In the framework of spreadsheet capitalism, capital no longer exists solely as a tangible asset, productive relation, or factor of industrial production—it is reconstituted as a symbolic, programmable logic embedded in and animated by digital spreadsheets. Drawing on a semiotic-computational framework, this transformation reveals how capital is not simply represented in spreadsheets but reborn through symbolic substitution, abstract modeling, and procedural calculation.

Google: Monetizing the Automatrix – Rerun

As we move towards the “Automatrix,” the newly forming digital environment for self-driving and wireless charging transportation, Google looks to situate its search/advertising business at its center.

AI and the Rise of Networked Robotics

We use the first two chapters of Kaku’s book on the “Future of the Computer: Mind over Matter” and “Future of AI: Rise of the Machines” as part of my Introduction to Science, Technology, and Society course. Both chapters address robotics and are insightful in many ways, but they lacked focus on networked intelligence. The book was published on the verge of the AI and robotics explosion that is coming from crowdsourcing, webscraping, and other networked data collection techniques that can gather information for machine learning (ML).
